The cloud forest sits between the Andean highlands and the Chocó lowlands, creating a highly biodiverse transition zone. This concentration of endemic species makes the 268-square-kilometer (103-square-mile) region a prominent destination for wildlife observation.

Most sanctuaries charge individual entry fees averaging $5 for birding spots and $8.50 for the butterfly garden. Remember to pack binoculars and a camera with a telephoto lens (300mm or more) to capture the canopy wildlife.
